CT Grapevine in support of Foodshare's Annual Thanksgiving Drive will be collecting turkeys and $20 donations to help the organization feed some 100,000 people throughout Hartford and Tolland Counties.
“With the overwhelming success of last year's Thanksgiving efforts, we are once again inviting smaller groups to participate in our ‘Turkey and a Twenty' drive,” says Gloria McAdam, Foodshare President & CEO. She encourages neighborhoods, condo associations, smaller employers and even book groups to form a Turkey Team.
This Thanksgiving, thousands of area families have asked for help putting a traditional meal on the table. All those turkeys and donations must be collected by
November 16, 2009 at 5pm. With the recent economic turmoil, Foodshare, the heart of greater Hartford's hunger-fighting network, needs more turkeys and donations than in previous years to fulfill these requests.
Foodshare's “Turkey and a Twenty” drive also seeks to raise funds to continue distributing food this winter, long after the holidays are over. Every $20 gift allows Foodshare to provide another 20 days worth of food for one of the 40,000 children in our area at risk of hunger.
Donations can be dropped off at the CT Grapevine corporate office - 159 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT or by calling 860-818-3682 or email info@ctgrapevine.com. Donations are being accepted starting Wednesday, October 28 - Monday, November 16, 2009.
